Success at USDAA Regional Championships – Mid Atlantic – Barto, PA
Final Day & Recap of the USDAA Regionals in Barto, PA: Both girls made finals in Steeplechase & Grand Prix. There is a lot of pressure at these event s because you are both trying to win a podium spot & more importantly earn a bye in to the semi finals at Nationals. Nationals (Cynosport World Games) are being held in late October in Nashville, Tennessee.
Funkee had a decent Grand Prix run but was a little “slow” over the first 4 obstacles. I had run in her in another ring just minutes before. Once we got going though, she starting running like her normal self. We ended up 3rd overall winning the bronze medal & a bye to semis. Then we had Steeplechase Finals – she was on Fire!!!! We won 1st place (by 1 second) over some fantastic dogs, the Gold Medal and another bye in to semi’s 🙂
Slyce had a fabulous weekend. She ran 13 of 13 runs free of errors! I remember when Ping Pong got to this point. When you run this much together as a team – things more easily fall in to place. I feel so comfortable running her & boy can she still work at 11 years old. She posted many of the fastest times all weekend. Slyce earned a bye in to both GP & STP semi finals at Nationals. We won the Silver medal in Grand Prix Finals, another Silver medal in Steeplechase Finals & also the overall Gold Medal in the DAM Team event. She was teamed with 2 fab members of the USA World Team. Really enjoyed my weekend with Slyce.
That brings me to Baby Grand Slam 🙂 we had some shakey moments due to lack of experience running together, but overall I was happy with all his moments of brilliance. If I think back to Slyce (his mom) at age 2, Slam is eons ahead of her as far as his training. She was a wild screaming maniac that I couldn’t get around a course clean at first. Slam is fast, but luckily doesn’t scream or try to do anything but what I tell him 🙂 we need to keep running courses & developing some team work. Excited about this boys future though.
I stayed with my parents in their trailer this weekend. I normally stay in hotels, but I must say – I LOVED the trailer. It’s making me really consider buying one of my own – or a small motor home. What a convenience to stay right at the show site. The dogs were relaxed – waaaaay easier when you have a 4 month old toy poodley doo puppy. Saturday the Keystone Agility Club hosted a BBQ for the judges & all the Campers. It was a blast. Awesome food & a chance to get to know some new people. I introduced them to the game of “flip cup” which essentially is a university drinking game. We had a riot. Get a bunch of people with a highly competitive edge & add beer – you know it’s gonna be a good time 🙂
Overall a great weekend. Ontario Regional Championships next weekend in Cookstown.
Our team won the Gold Medal in the DAM event. Our team was called “High Jacked at the Border” – With Ivette White & Zip (USA), Mary Ellen Barry & E-Z (USA) & Myself & Slyce (CAN) – Slyce ran all 5 team events clear of faults.
