Snow brought good luck in Barrie, ON
I had a great time at the Red Barn this weekend at the USDAA Trial. I am working towards my qualifications needed to play at the 2014 Cynosport World Games being in held in California.
You need 2 steeplechase Q’s, 2 Grand Prix, 1 team & 1 Q in both Master Challenge Jumpers & Standard.
This was the first time I’ve run Slyce at 16″. I made the decision to run her in Performance at the lower heights since she’s now 11.5y and no longer has anything to prove 🙂 She loved it & me? well, I realized that I have to run a lot more with her at this height! haha. It was a ton of Fun! Slyce earned both a Steeplechase & Grand Prix Qualification this weekend. We also teamed up in Versatility Pairs with my boyfriend Ken & “Our” dog Hummer. We ended up with a team Q and placing first overall! Slyce was #1 dog overall & Hummer was #2 overall in the individual events. Slyce won the steeplechase finals and Hummer placed 2nd behind her! Very proud of how well Ken did this weekend.
Grand Slam also earned a Grand Prix, Steeplechase & Team Q. We had many beautiful runs this weekend including winning the Steeplechase Finals Sunday afternoon.
Funkee Monkee was on fire. I was surprised because we were running on rubber matting that wasn’t ideal for going fast! She struggled to get traction & I thought she might be a little put off by this. BUT she was a trooper, she tried her hardest all weekend and we almost finished our qualifications for Cyno. She earned a Steeplechase, Grand Prix, Master Challenge Jumpers & Master Challenge Standard – placing 1st in all 4 classes. She also won Steeplechase Finals on Sunday afternoon.
With the exception of driving back & forth several hours in a snow storm – it was a lovely weekend with great friends. The courses were fun & challenging designed by Mr. Tom Kula. Looking forward to LaPeer next month. Hopefully we will knock off some more Q’s & take the pressure off the rest of the year.
