Happy & Sad News after ’13 Cynosport – Slyce’s semi retirement
Well happy & sad news after the Cynosport World Games for Slyce & I. This was an important event for us………..It was going to help me determine if I should drop her down to a lower height & leave the Regular/Championships Division. I found this to be a tough decision because even though she’s 11.5 years old, she certainly doesn’t run like it! Even a few weeks ago at Cynosport she was posting some of the fastest times in the 22″ height (off over 300 dogs)
Earlier this year Slyce competed at the WAO World Championships in Spain. She earned the Gold Medal in the Games event which is a combination between a Snooker & Gamblers Class. Slyce has represented Team Canada in 2006, 2008, 2010 & 2012 at the IFCS Championships as well as 2012 & 2013 at the WAO World Championships. She has earned 10 Medals total, 5 of them being Gold. She has also won multiple Regional & National Events.
A few weeks ago at the 2013 Cynosport World Games she made Steeplechase Semi Finals, Grand Prix Semi Finals & Grand Prix Finals – but the most exciting part was earning 1st place in the Master Challenge Biathlon. This is combination between the most challenging Jumpers & Standard Courses. She ran both clean & fast earning the Champion title! Pretty Cool!
This dog is so special to me. She has taken me so many places both literally, in my training & in my career. I have learned to be a better dog trainer & a better competitor because of her.
So….. I now ask myself – what does she have to prove at the 22″ height? My decision to jump her down in 16″ became pretty darn easy. This dog has nothing to prove anymore, no world championships to conquer anymore……We are going out with a BANG!. She can now spend her days kicking some serious ass in the 16″ Division & being my best demo dog while I’m teaching. She could care less what the competition is as long as we are out there playing the game she loves together! I have had several people ask about running my dogs once they move to “Veterans” so I can focus on my other dogs…… They must be dreaming! LOL. You couldn’t pay me a million dollars to give this girl up! I plan on having as many more runs around that ring as possible. Running Slyce is like putting on the most comfortable old pair of shoes you own – except they work extremely well still!
Please enjoy my runs from this years Cynosport Games! Take good care of those old dogs out there! With the right care & training – they can have long successful careers!
Slyce – my once in a lifetime dog 🙂
